10. Haute Herringbone This Los Angeles master bathroom features a pair of glass shower partitions with an opening in the center. The design lets the homeowner walk directly into the wet area, where two shower heads and a deep soaking tub beckon. The gray elongated porcelain floor tile is laid in a herringbone pattern that adds interest to this luxurious space. Matte black hardware and plumbing fixtures finish the look.

9. Marvelous Marble The Design Studio used Emperador Light marble to cover the floor, shower wall and countertops in this posh Boston master bathroom. The long and narrow space includes a freestanding tub tucked below shuttered windows to create a stylish spot for a deep soak. A wall cabinet between the two sinks adds plenty of storage. Bold Pendants and Backsplash “The homeowners challenged us to design a bathroom their girls will love forever,” says designer Ami McKay of Pure Design. “The shower-tub combo is the perfect solution for kids and teens to have the freedom of choice between a quick shower or a long soak.” The space in Vancouver, British Columbia, features custom Spanish-inspired hand-painted tile above the vanity and a pair of black industrial-style pendants. Glossy grey tile for the shower and tub surround, black plumbing fixtures and a teal shower curtain complete the stylish design.

7. Playful Patterns Stacy Eisenmann and Aska Wieloch-Kim of Eisenmann Architecture designed this kid’s bathroom in Albany, California. They created a playful mix of pattern and tiles with emerald green wall tile, a custom patterned tub apron and black hexagonal floor tile. The tall ceiling with skylight and the floating wood vanity keep the small space feeling airy and bright.

6. Fun Wallpaper and Art Playful wallpaper adds texture and pattern to this mostly all-white kids’ bathroom in Surrey, British Columbia. The space was designed by Lisa Hansen of Area3 Design Studio. Framed artwork that reminds occupants to “wash your hands” and “brush your teeth” adds to the space’s charm. “It provides that kid-friendly flavour,” Hansen says. Other special features include black-hued hardware, plumbing fixtures, mirror frame and light fixture.

5. Spa-Like Experience With its wall-hung towel warmer and large walk-in shower with a teak bench, this Oakland, California, master bathroom by Joy Street Design provides a spa-like experience. The patterned black-and-white floor tile, bold blue vanity cabinet and vase of pink flowers add a splash of vibrancy and pizazz.

AAmp Studio

4. Modern Whimsy “This is a bathroom for the clients’ child,” architect Andrew Ashey of AAmp Studio says. “They requested that it be bright and cheerful while being mindful of the rest of the home’s modern design.” The whimsical Toronto space features graphic patterned clay tile on the floor, tub apron and shower wall. The matte black fixtures add a modern touch.

3. Superstar Vanity These Dallas homeowners looked at Houzz photos and other online sources for inspiration. Then they hired designer Tara Lenney of Tara Lenney Design to help them renovate their master bathroom with a layout that uses the space in a more efficient way. Consolidating the two closets into one large closet allowed Lenney to create a 12½-foot-long custom rift-cut white oak vanity. Matte black pulls, faucets and mirror frames coordinate with the shower fixtures. The sconces feature black and brass finishes. “I love mixing metals, so things feel layered,” Lenney says.

K and Q Interiors

2. Sensational Stripe In order to tie in the crisp white walls and vanity cabinet with the dark gray countertop and shower tiles, designers Kacie Lilley and Stacy Scharf of K and Q Interiors turned their attention to the floor of this bathroom in Scottsdale, Arizona. The designers added penny round floor tile in gray and white to create a striped pattern that melds the room’s colors and creates a stylish standout feature.

Design Matters Home

1. Nifty in Navy The most popular bathroom photo so far this year is a thoughtfully designed space in Boulder, Colorado, by Helly Duncan of Design Matters Home. Duncan created a feature wall with navy teardrop matte glass tiles to distract the eye. “This feature wall helps detract from the tub and keeps your eye focused on the accent when you come into the bathroom,” she says. The navy vanity cabinet adds another touch of blue that ties the space together. Wood wall shelves add display space for art and accessories.
