Yes, to anyone. Since 26 September 2022 there has been no requirement that the occupant be related to the household in the main house. A 50m² two bedroom granny flat reaches a wider tenant pool than a one bedroom, which shows up in both rental return and vacancy.
On 1 September 2026 the Queensland Housing Code introduced a state-level figure of 50m² for secondary dwellings, rising to 60m² on lots of 1,000m² or larger. Adoption by councils is voluntary across a three year transition, so the Seville 50 is built to where the state is heading rather than where it has been. It also suits Ipswich, where sizing has been banded by lot area since July 2025 and smaller blocks are no longer shut out.
